Sorting through 898 species of Pokemon is no easy task but there are a few methods to help organize the data into something manageable. Here are the parameters:
All transformations, fusions, Mega and Gigantamax evolutions were excluded. Although some of the Pokemon mentioned below may have Gigantamax forms, it’s important to note that this article is only judging the base form.
No Legendary or Mythicals. These Pokemon have a completely separate lore to the everyday fauna of the Pokemon world.
Is the egg group combination found in another family?
Is the type combination found in another family or is the reverse type combination found in another family?
Now that rules have been established let’s see what we’ll get.

Applin
Egg: Grass/Dragon
Type: Grass/Dragon
It does share the typing with Alolan Exeggutor and Mega-Sceptile, however it does remain as the only Grass/Dragon egg group member.
9
Flygon
Egg: Bug/Dragon
Type: Ground/Dragon
Shares the reverse typing with Garchomp and Zygarde(a legendary). Originally a Bug only egg group.
8 - 7
Hawlucha
Egg: Flying/Human
Type: Fighting/Flying
Shares typing with Galarian Zapdos(a legendary). Originally a human-like only egg group.
Ferroseed
Egg: Grass/Mineral
Type: Grass/Steel
Shares typing with Kartana(a legendary).
6 - 5
Duraludon
Egg: Mineral/Dragon
Type: Steel/Dragon
Shares typing with Dialga (a legendary).
Dreepy
Egg: Amorphous/Dragon
Type: Dragon/Ghost
Shares a reverse typing with Giratina (a legendary).
4 - 3
Impidimp
Egg: Fairy/Human-like
Type: Dark/Fairy
Completely original, although sometimes paired with Hatterene and does have similarities with Sableye and Nuzleaf.
Cutiefly
Egg: Bug/Fairy
Type: Bug/Fairy
While Combee, Vespiqueen, Beautifly, Vivillon, Volbeat and Illumise all share fly and fairy-like characteristics, Cutiefly is the first to actually be designated as both a Fairy type and Fairy egg group.
2
Togetic
Egg: Flying/Fairy
Type: Fairy/Flying
Although originally Normal/Flying this Fairy/Flying species is still unique after 7 generations! Absolutely nothing comes close apart from Spritzee’s bird-like design. Delibird, Castform, and Hoppip do share air and fairy-like characteristics but none could be retyped to Fairy. Clefable has wings, as does Shaymin-Sky and if we really want to stretch healing airborn species, Ho-Oh. Blissey, Mega Audino, Latios and Latias all share similarities with the most common theory linking Togetic’s blue and red triangle shell patterns to the Lati@s. Perhaps some day we’ll learn more about scrapped Pokemon connections.

Lotad
Egg: Water 1/Grass
Type: Water/Grass
Water and Grass, such a simple combination yet somehow only used once. There doesn’t seem to be any Water types that could have been retyped to Water/Grass but there are a few potentials in the Grass type. The most obvious would be Maractus, both share the Mexican dance motif and cactuses (or cacti for all you Wikipedia readers) store water internally. If we judge a type based on environment then Dhelmise, Lileep, Cradily are sure candidates to be retyped to Water/Grass. Other obscure possibilities could be Morelull, Shiinotic, and maybe Exeggutor (coconut water?).
Honorable mentions including forms and transformations: Ditto, Unown, Shedinja, Deoxys, Rotom, Oricorio, Castform, Cherrim, Hoopa, Shaymin, Meleotta, Wobbuffet, Arceus/Silvally, Darmanitan, Wishiwashi, Minior, Zygarde, Aegislash, Zorua/Zoroark, Burmy/Wormadam, Lycanroc, Alcremie, Spinda. Kyruem, Necrozma, and Calyrex are excluded as fusions don’t necessarily equate to good design.
